Improving Indigenous Education through Dialogic Pedagogy

Speaker: noted Maori Scholar Dr. Russell Bishop
The Vancouver School Board and the School Leadership Centre
at UBC are pleased to invite you to attend a one day colloquium
with noted Maori scholar Dr. Russell Bishop. Dr. Bishop and
his colleagues at the University of Waikato in conjunction
with the New Zealand Ministry of Education have developed
a program of teacher education and pedagogy that has resulted
in dramatic educational improvements for Maori students in
mainstream school settings.
During this session, Dr. Bishop will present an overview
of the Te Kotahitanga program, its underlying theory, its
implementation, its research based approach, and its results.
A panel of noted educators in Indigenous education from across
the province will respond to Dr. Russell.
Session Details
The session will be hosted at the Vancouver School Board
Office, 1580 West Broadway, Vancouver.
Colloquium check-in will begin at 8:30 am with the day formally
getting underway at 9 am. Proceedings will be concluded at
3 pm.
The costs of the day are being jointly covered by the Vancouver
School Board, the School Leadership Centre at UBC.
Pre-registration for the event is required.
