2nd Annual International Educator Exchange:
A Return to New Zealand
The School Leadership Centre at UBC (SLC) is pleased to announce
its 2nd Annual International Educator Exchange. After the
success of last year’s exchange, and with an unusual
opportunity to build upon last year’s experience, the
educator exchange will once again be to New Zealand. The theme
for 2005 – 2006 is:
Leading and Improving Aboriginal Education in British Columbia
The details of the exchange program are as follows:
What: An exchange of 4 K – 12 educators
from BC with counterparts in New Zealand.
When: BC educators to spend 3 weeks in New
Zealand schools, July/August 2005.
NZ educators to spend 3 weeks in BC schools, Winter/Spring
2006.
How: The SLC, supported by a grant from the
Ministry of Education, will provide
return airfare and a $1000 stipend to help with expenses.
Why:
- To share expertise with educators advancing Indigenous
education in NZ
- To develop wider support networks and on-going exchanges
of information.
- To improve educational opportunities for Aboriginal students
in British Columbia and in New Zealand.
- To reconsider educational purposes for Aboriginal education.
Qualifications:
- Willingness to host exchange partner in your home, school,
and district;
- Openness to new ideas;
- Willingness to share what you learn and give new ideas
‘life’ appropriate to your context;
- Minimum of 5 years educational experience (at least 3
in schools with high proportions of First Nations students).
- Leadership experience implementing new ideas.
- Masters degree or proven research capacity.
Application Information:
- The application deadline is 5 pm, April 4, 2005.
- Notification of successful candidates, April 30, 2005.
- Mail, fax or e-mail completed application to the SLC.
We intend this exchange program to bring into the educational
contexts of British Columbia valuable knowledge and perspectives
that will further improve the learning opportunities for our
students. We also intend this program to inspire and advance
the educational leadership of participants.
