During that time Gary has been a teacher of various subjects, including English and ESL; has served as a high school counsellor; has been a school-based administrator, both Vice Principal and Principal; and has been in the Associate’s role for the past four years. Among his duties is District Management sponsorship of the Vancouver District Students’ Council, a representative body which serves all 18 high schools in the public system. This group has gained a reputation locally for the work that it has done with Schools Building Schools; the World Peace Forum; Sister Schools Switch; and Leaders Today. Gary has been active in the District in promoting student voice. He has initiated forums with over 600 students drawn from 33 South Area schools, and co-developed with Ms. Patricia Peters the highly-successful Dialogue on the Dialogue, reflections on the Imagine B.C. Forum on Education. He is passionately interested in professional development for educators and co-presented with Mr. A. Krawczyk, Principal of Churchill School, a workshop entitled Equity, International Mindedness and Diversity at this summer’s International Baccalaureate Conference in Chicago. Gary tries to balance professional commitments with ice hockey, guitar and family.
